WWII Koppitz Steinies

Posted by Brad Flinders on September 5, 2013 at 5:15 PM Comments comments (0)

I just acquired these 5 1942 steinie bottles.  There are 100 different labels in the set and with the addition of these 5 I now have 7.   Still a long way to go.   All the bottles in the set depict WWII airplanes, ships, types of armament and other WWII information.   This is one of those sets I 'd sure like to put together but in the years I've been collecting steinies, the 7 I have are the only ones I've seen available.

BCCA Canvention

After a 1500 mile drive from Taos I arrived the Brewery Collectibles Canvention in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  I brought over 100 steinies with me so if you are attending the show be sure to come by my room at the Courtyard or find me on the trade floor.   Due to the location of the show attendance should be fantastic!  Both canvention hotels are sold out and many people are staying in the overflow locations.  I'll post photos of the show when I get back to NM.

Back in the US

I'm back in the US...no more dodging incoming Taliban Rockets, smelling the poo pond, hiding from the Mummy sized dust storms and workinging 7 days a week 12 hours a day.   I'm now in Maine but will be moving back to Taos, New Mexico in early June.   Right now my collection and all the botles I have for sale are boxed up and in storage in San Antonio, TX.   I'll be reunited sometime next month and will be able to update the for sale page.  I purchased a couple of small collections while in Afghanistan and I know there are many dujplicates so some cool bottles will be added.  Keep watching the site especially come July for new additions.

Coming home soon!

I've now been in Afghanistan for over a year and as of today I have 71 days until my contract ends.  I'm getting pretty excited about coming home to the states.  Where is home?  We sold our house in Texas and will be residing in Southern Maine for awhile and then back to Taos, NM when the tenants move out of our house.  Lots to do in the next 7 or 8 months.  I've still managed to acquire some nice bottles while I've been out of country.  The bottles below came to my attention through this web stie so you never know what might turn up.  And, Chicago is my favorite city to collect so this was an especially nice surprise.

Acquisitions from far away

I .  I have been remiss in my ramblings lately but I have a good excuse....I've been in Afghanistan since early October of 2011.  I'm a contractor with DynCorp International providing Logistics support to the troops.  But, being out in the middle of nowhere has not kept me from adding to my collection.  Thanks to the efforts of some good collector friends finding me new bottles and eBay, I've been able to add some pretty nice bottles.  Not all steinies but some stubbies and no depost no returns bottles as well.  Above and below are a few of the latest additions: elow

Steinies by State

One of my steinie sub collections is to display a bottle from each state.  I currently have 41 including Washington, D. C.  Through photos and ads I know steinies exist from Delaware, Arizona and Tennessee.  I'm not sure about Alaska, North Dakota, kansas, Oklahoma, Georgia and North and South Carilona.  I have heard from experts that no steinies exist from Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Maine and Vermont.  Check out the photos of the 41 bottles I have in my collection.

Mountain Top Steinies

I recenty picked up the Mountain Top Steinie from the Springfield Brewing Co, Springfield Illinois.  I now have 4 different and wondered how many other brewers also used this label.  From left to right the brewers are as follows:  Springfield Brewilng Co (with a nice reference to the 905 liquor stores in St Louis), Mound City Brewing Co, New Athens, Illinois (with the ABC Brewing Co mandatory blacked out), another Mound City Brewing Co bottle, Cream City Brewing Co of Miilwaukee, Wisconsin.  Some quick research showed that the label was also used by Manhattan, Prima-Bismarck (both of Chicago), ABC Brewing Co of St Louis and the Trenton Brewing Co of Trenton, Ill.  Does anyone out there know of other brewers who used this label?   Let me know.

Chicago, Chicago, Chicago!

Chicago area steinies are the centerpiece of my collection.  I collected Chicago Beer cans and breweriana back in the 80's but find the diversity of labels on bottles much more interesting.  I just acquired these 3 bottles.  I now have close to 50 steinies from Chicago and the surrounding area but I realize I have only scratched the surface!!
